Geckos are predators, and need something alive and moving to catch their interest to eat. Besides, freeze-dried bugs probably don't have the proper nutrition... and certainly don't have the moisture the geckos need in their normal diet.

Just out of curiosity has anyone ever tried those vibrating feeding dishes?

Well, my gecko's seem to be doing fine with just mealies and crickets. I just recently acquired a few baby (1 month old) bearded dragons and while I do have crickets for them I ended up with a bottle of the bearded dragon pellets for babies.

Naturally the dragons do not even take notice of them but I wonder if they jiggled a bit if they would find it more appealing.

I agree with Marcia. Leopard geckos are predators and eat only live food. Plus the flies prably don't have the nutrition that they need. STUPID pet stores!! I hope I was allowed to say that.

I got a vibrating dish. I got it for $2.50 at Petco because the box was ripped! I would never get one that was over that price though. I think they are total junk. Anyway, I cannot afford almost 20 of them and they are too bulky.

I have a container of those dead flies. It's two years old now, and I don't believe any of my geckos have touched even one of them. For the first few months, I occasionally offered them some in a dish, and then dumped them out of the dish untouched; but now they are just sitting in the bottom of the gecko supplies tank . . .

My geckos never touched them. However I've found that crickets will greedily run away with them. I got them when I first gecko too because I was told I *needed* them. I just use them as an extra thing to use as gut load because they're covered in vitamins supposedly.

I do believe you are supposed to ad some water to those when feeding. I had a gecko in the past who would drink the water from the mixture, but not eat the flies.:main_rolleyes:

My container said that you could feed them dry or mist them. I never tried soaking them. It didn't matter which way I offered them, my geckos were not interested . . . well, I haven't tried Mokey on them yet . . . then I heard that they didn't make good gecko food anyway, so I put them up for until I figured out what to do with them.

Hmmm . . . Cricket gutload . . .maybe I should be getting them out again :)

It's quite comical if you put them near a cricket. They literally pick them up and run off with them to go munch on them.
