I use heat tape in all my custom viv's but when I purchase my racks I am considering the AP's with the heat cable. I have heard such good things about them that I will probably make the shift that way. Being an electronics tech I know the heat cable might be a bit more localized but from what I see in a rack system most only use 3 in heat tape so I would say not a big difference in surface area would be covered. Heat cable would definitely be more consistent throughout I think because it is really just a tube of heating conductor instead of the tape which is spaced out in strips and has room for loss between the conductor paths. Just my two cents but the more I think about the nature of both products the more my electronics background is steering me away from the tape and to the cable. I would say if you are having no problems and like how the cable works in your set ups why change.
