For starters I am new to breeding.
I've been trying to get my 50g SHTCT male (~8months old) to breed with my 91g Albino female (virgin ~5yrs old)
I tried printer paper in my male's bin for a week then transferred to the females for a week but never saw her ovulate. Put them together for ~10min and he quickly shakes his tale and is interested in her but she slowly shakes her tale and struck him 2x before I removed him.

Does it matter that he is only half her size?
Should I just keep trying paper or leave them together longer?

I know its late in the season for breeding but I'd like to get some fertile eggs hatched this year for experience before going forward next year with my plans.

TIA

Bill

The real question is whether she never ovulated at all this season or whether she has ovulated and is done now. My geckos started ovulating in Feb. and I have only one (who started late) that is still gravid. I also have 2 geckos, one 7 years old and one 6 years old, who did not ovulate at all this season and have been retired from breeding. The older one, who I got when she was 2 1/2, was never a good breeder and produced a total of 4 babies in 2 years. She is housed with a docile male and, while her female "roomate" has laid a number of eggs, she hasn't. The younger gecko produced 10 babies for me her first year, fewer her second year and then either never laid anything fertile or didn't ovulate. She is also housed with a male and produces nothing.

I guess my point is, that while there are many older geckos that lay a bunch, some are done at an early age. At the risk of tooting my own horn in the wrong place, if you come to the Portland ME herp show on 8/30 I can provide some females that will breed for you next season.

Thx for the reply.
I see what your saying. I did not check her for ovulating earlier in the year. I will keep checking her for a few more weeks but may have to wait for next year.

I've been thinking about going to the Portland ME show but not sure yet, I do have a friend setting up a table this year (A Plus Serpents)

I actually have got a decent stock of juvenille females I have plans for next year. I need a few more males though, I only have 2 and both are SHTCT....lol
I will send you a message on what I'm looking for.

Thx
Bill
