A bit worried about my leo habitat

Hey all,

My 1st thread so go easy on me ;)

I'm a bit worried because i have herd that you need a hot side and a cool side to your habitat as that is what's best for the leo. I don't have a long tank though, i have a exo terra 45x45x45 terrarium so i am going to find it hard to get the 2 sides at different temps.

Here is the sort of tank i have

Any ideas?

This is the same tank i started with, only kept it a few days as it was impossible to have the tempretures correct. I also found there realy wasn't much floor space for a warm hide and a humid hide (no chance of a cool hide either).
Only suggestion i have got is to shop around for a longer tank. How was you going to heat this tank?

Was going to use a heat lamp, maybe a small heating mat

These tanks are great for a crested but not real good for a leopard. I also would suggest trying to get a 20 L. You may be able to find a used one pretty cheap.

I have one of those tanks that i still have set up for one of my leos. I only use it cause i have to right now. It is difficult trying to get the temps right. I use a UTH and a heat lamp in order to keep the hot side and ambients air correct. It will work you just need to figure what combination will work the best. I only have about 1/3 of the botttom covered with the UTH so the hot spot is fine, its just the ambient temps that stay lower than needed. I use a 50 watt heat lamp also which keeps my ambient temps right at 80 degrees which is the lowest it should be. Longer tanks are better because they allow more temperature gradients. I like my 40 gallon tanks because it allows more gradients in the temperature and allows them to regulate it better. Of course my fourties have several leos so that another positive for it.

I am going to copy the others and say you'd be better off with a 20 gallon long. It'll be much easier to maintain temps that way.

Where'd you buy the enclosure? If it's one of the "Pet" places where they are "Smart" than they will pretty much accept any return for store credit. Look on craiglist in your area. I recently got a 40 gallon breeder tank with screen lid for $50.

isnt 45x45x45 the biggest size you can get? They are adequately sized and i dont think you'll have a problem heating it. if it is the one I am thinking of
