A few questions about Cresties...

My local pet store has a few baby (1 1/2-2 inch) cresties for sale. They want 49 dollars for them, and I think I'm gonna get one. My questions are:
1.) Isn't paper towel the best substrate for them? (A man told me dirt or eco-earth was)
2.) What should be the proper humidity level for them? (About 60?)
3.) Can I house a baby in a 29 gallon? (Or would it be to big?)
4.) Do they make as good & as fun a pet as a leo?

ANY INPUT IS VERY WELCOMED-I'm not a 100% sure I should get one.

hi there these are my Opinions about your questions when it comes to crested geckos.

1.) Isn't paper towel the best substrate for them? (A man told me dirt or eco-earth was)

Yes indeed it is for any age, however eco-earth, moss, and others work almost if not just as well but i would only use a Lose substrate With adults not babies, Want to play it safe? Stick to paper towels.

2.) What should be the proper humidity level for them? (About 60?)
Isnt a HUGE deal, Aslong as you Mist down the cage everyday or so you should be fine but if you wanna Have a number keep it around 40-50% humidity.

3.) Can I house a baby in a 29 gallon? (Or would it be to big?)
wow,Unless your Dressing it up to look like the island New Caledonia its self (where they come from) I stick to something much smaller for a baby, no really do that. Go small and make sure you dress it up with tons of hides, plants, Just make it look pretty!

4.) Do they make as good & as fun a pet as a leo?

Oh my gosh are you kidding me? You will be doing back flips right to grab these little guys, there insane and just as funny! really my new addiction in the gecko world, you will LOVE these animals!

Hope this info Helps you!

1.) When you first bring your baby home, I'd use paper towel. It's easier to find poo on paper towel than other substrates. And if you plan to feed loose insects at anytime, use paper towel.

2.) As snakegirl says, it doesn't really matter as long as you are misting them at night before you go to bed.
BUT, if you mist them at night, the humidity should get to 80% +. And then during the day it's ok to drop down lower.

3.) I wouldn't house a baby in an enclosure that big. Only because I like to keep my little ones in Kritter Keepers until I am 100% positive they are eating, pooing, growing, and healthy.

4.) Yes. They are fun. :main_yes:

Only thing I would want to add to this all is that maybe consider a breeder over a pet store crestie. Many of us on here are breeders, but also you can normally find them at your reptile show. I only say this because 1.5" is pretty small to be selling, and often you can find well started babies from breeders for as much if not less then at the pet store.

I would, but there aren't any shows near where I live so I can't. Besides, the one I've been eyeballing looks very healthy.
