1. Does candling stress out the baby inside?

Does anybody know this for a fact?

2. Can babies pip eggs that has a harder shell than normal?

************non humor #1 IMO no..... but I'm not sure how you could know it for a fact. I think it would be as any other function with them. They accept handling after hatching. Suggest clean hands if touching the eggs and limit to only necessary times.
*********** Yes, not only thick shell but weak babies will need help getting out at times. That is why it is important to get an idea of your hatching times for the way you incubate. You can save the life when they are having trouble. And they don't just wiggle and let you know they are......take care. HJ
