I know that I have been a member and posted here for a while now, but my son has gotten very involved in breeding leopard geckos and is putting together projects and a website so I wanted to share a little about him.

He is 14, with a very rare sleep disorder that has prevented him from doing "normal" kid things for the last few years. There are no magic medicines and there is no cure although it may gradually go away, a remission of sorts, as he ages. Hence the "chaos" in his choice of Chaotic Geckos as a name.

He is home schooled and this is in a large part therapy, part grade. He is working toward improving his stock and exploring genetics. He is breeding geckos purchased only from reputable breeders, has done the research and is in his second year of breeding leos and his fourth year of breeding crested geckos with my help. Neither of us know it all, never will, and will be asking questions as we go.

My breeding experience with reptiles is the same as his, we are learning together. I have a background in animal sciences and genetics, and bred, trained and showed horses for many years.

I hope to be more active in the leo forum and get to know more of you.

Welcome to your son as well! It's good to see a child being responsible for Animals and to see his parents involved as well. It always makes me cringe to see kids wanting to breed certain animals or even just keeping one as a pet and then they get bored of it and so their parents get rid of it. I think whenever a child wants a pet the parents should be just as interested in the animal that way if the child loses interest then the parents can still be responsible for it.
Anyways, sorry for the rambling, lol.

He says thank you for the welcome!

I am very involved in what he does and pets / living creatures are not taken lightly here. Usually I wouldn't condone kids breeding either, but this kid has dealt with a lot in the last year and this is something he can do and succeed at. Something he has to look forward to :)

That's great to hear, and I see no issues with someone of your son's age breeding as long as they are doing it responsibly, which it sounds like you guys are. :)
Very good! :p

He's down for the count now, and may not be up until late tomorrow but I will make sure he sees this. He has read several of your Gecko Time articles. Is there a way to subscribe to it. Okay, that was lazy, I will look for myself!

Thank you Aliza!
