a sad pit bull story

I just found out that my cousin's trusted, beloved & raised since a pup, with children too, broke off it's chain & chased down a dog & killed it. They were eating dinner when they heard the noise. They are devestated.

This is totally one of those stories that would end up in the news & slam pits, again. They have absolutely no idea why. The dog was 8 years old & never, ever had any episodes like this. I feel so bad for everybody involved. Of course the police & pound came immediately & took their dog to put it down.
It all s*cks.

That is sad. Maybe he thought the other dog was a threat? Pits are such good dogs! I'll never forget my family's reaction when they found out I had rescued a pit (4 wks) and I was pregnant! the pup was 4 months when the baby was born...an has gaurded her since her first day back from the hospital.

I'm so sorry for your families loss, it is a hard thing. *sending good thoughts your way*

i wish theyd shed light on the sweeter side of pits.
my friend rescued a pit puppy, now 4 months old and affectionately called Champ, from his friend's roommate who was mistreating and abusing him. he kept him in a cage in a dark room alone for the majority of the day and when he handled the puppy he was way to rough with him. he broke his toe throwing him into the bathtub one day to wash him. he was going to either use him as a bait dog or train him to be a fighter.
I'm so glad Zak rescued him. Champ is like a human. He is so calm, abnormally calm, especially for a pit puppy. He has separation anxiety that Zak is weening him off of and just putting every love in his bones into taking care of the pup.
He has to be one of the best well behaved puppy i have ever seen! it doesnt seem like he has a mean bone in his little body.

I'd ponder a guess and say that the dog lived on the chain? If so, that's something that increases the behaviors. It's actually why you shouldn't let a dog live on a chain.

There are almost always signs before something like this happens.

Sorry to hear about the outcome... Hopefully you're cousin and his family will be alright.

I'd love to tell you this was the situation so that there would be a "reason" behind the attack. Nope. This dog was your typical family dog, lavished with love & spoiled like a brat. It's simply a horrible case of WHY?????
