Hi guys! I pop on the forum time to time to see if people have DIY ideas, posts about health etc. And the weirdest thing happened to me the other day. Olli my leopard gecko was so pale I don't have anything else to describe it other than some really thin white sketch paper. I knew he was having an issue finding energy to get up when he normally does now that winter is coming in never mind shedding, I found a pocket of air between the two layers of skin, I gently tugged and he didn't bat an eye, I pulled slightly as it tore, I constantly made sure he was still comfortable. Now he has a big attitude so if he didn't like it he would let me know. I took off the back piece, I grabbed his leg piece, and let him pull it off. I did this for all his feet and his head. So then I finished it off with his tail. I Put it in a pile on my desk and let him eat it.
I think it was more of a bonding thing. I personally think it helps. I wouldn't recommend everyone do this, some geckos are very eager to tear the skin, luckily Olli is pretty content having things done for him :main_laugh:. But I think it was almost like a way of offering help, Olli and I have only been bonding for a while and I'm so happy with how far it has come. When you have a reptile I think it is soooooo much harder to gain their trust. I have four guinea pigs, with them being so food motivating it makes it a lot easier. But with reptiles you get a much better feeling once you've done a first, like their first full meal, first nap in your hands, they really work you and once you break ground it is so rewarding afterwards. If anyone is trying to convince their parents to let them own a reptile, I would just talk about how rewarding the bonding process is. I wish I knew how good it would feel when I got him to nap with me so I could tell my mom how rewarding it could be.
I could ramble for hours about how amazing it feels to make progress, but I'll save you the time :main_laugh:. Anyone else done this before? I realize it might disturb their natural shedding process but I could tell Olli was uncomfortable. Anyway leave me your thoughts! Have a good evening everyone
