well i have seen some how to's from a home deopot plastic rack, you would have to add your own heat (flexwatt), it has slots and you'd have to use tape etc, and cut the 4 corners that the shelves go down etc... other than that i would say getting some wood and building your own would still be much cheaper.

wow i use those metal ones in my restraunt but i dont remember them having that many shelves but i'm sure it would ifyou combined 2 ofthem, but i remember them being around 100 each... but did have thick plastic inserts on the grates to help with heat, never thought about those actually HMMMMMMM wonder if theyr'e still being used LOL.

Walmart sells those already stacked plastic draws for clothing and stuff for very little. Depends on the number of animals you need to house, but for under 15-20 animals I would say just go with a couple of those for now, depending on whether they are as cheap as I remember them being.

Wire racks from target work... Add lighting on top & either heat tape or heat wire (wire held on with zip-ties works great) underneath the bins and you are good to go. :main_yes:

As already stated tho - custom wood stuff is cheaper. :)

how would you heat them using heat cable? This is what I'm doing for the time being and need help heating them and scared heat cable will melt the plastic. i was thinking back heat and tape the cable on the shelving not on the plastic tubs

Or if you're feeling creative, you can do what I did. I wrote a thread about my cheap rack from Walmart. I used the ClosetMaid 24" wide shelving and, with some modifications, it can hold a decent amount of tubs.

I really can't recommend the plastic storage shelves at all that they sell in the plastic tubs section. There are very large gaps at the top of eat shelf, and I had several geckos escape from them. Unless you've got hatchlings that can't physically reach the top of the tub, I would definitely avoid them. Plus, heating was always a problem with them, since you can't get backheat to rest close enough to the shelves.

Nothing I would trust without a thermostat, although some of ZooMed's undertank heaters aren't that bad. They still wouldn't fit on the drawers though. If you put them on the bottom, the drawers won't fit in the shelving unit, and if you put them on the back, you'd be pulling extension cords and the whole assembly whenever you try to access your geckos. I really, really think using those plastic shelves are a bad idea.

I use 3", 6 watt flexwatt heat tape exclusively, but you have to order that online.
