Just want to say first off that I used the search function but didnt find what I was looking for. Maybe I just missed it. Anyway, I want to use tile in my tank instead of carpet. I noticed a few times that Presleys little "teeth" got stuck when he went to strike a mealie. He had to almost yank his head up to get unstuck, and that's not gonna fly in my book. Anyway, just wanted to know how thick of a tile to use so enough heat will come through from the UTH.

Thanks :)

Go to a Lowes or Home depot and go to the flooring section. They will have a HUGE selection of tiles to get. I think they are all the same thickness and whatever it is is fine because its what i use and you can feel the heat. Tile works great with UTH in my opinion.

If you put the UTH on a rheostat or thermostat you should be able to adjust the temperature to suit any tile. I believe that most porcelain type tiles are a standard thickness but natural stone tiles can get pretty thick.

I just added tile to my tank on top of the carpet and ended up having to buy a rheostat. The tile was at 111*F even with the tile on top of the carpet. The tile is ceramic so it is not that thick. I debated the slate because I couldnt find pieces that didnt have slivers on it. The store would not open another box so I could choose from others that were not already out.

Cool, thanks. Any idea how much a rheostat will run me?
