Absorbing?

I think that would be pretty hard to know. For starts, the only way to know if it's a fertile egg is to determine that the egg has, in fact, been fertilized...which is going to be hard to do while it is inside of the gecko and while the gecko is still alive. Just because the gecko has mated or been seen mating doesn't really mean that it's eggs are 100% fertilized. Secondly, if the egg gets "obsorbed", how would one ever know whether it was fertilized or not? I would throw out a guess and say that if it gets obsorbed, it is 100% no longer a fertile egg, :D.

I understand ther is no way of knowing whether an eggs is fertile or not inside the female. What I am asking is, (and this is a hypothetical question) "IF" an egg is fertilized and begins to develope inside the female, could it be "absorbed" and why?

Egg reabsorbing isn't too common in the lizard/geckos i dont think, though it can be induced by egg binding, stress such as, Poor diet, over handling, environmental issues like insufficient heat.

As to whether they can do this with a gravid egg, who knows for sure. It may depend on how far along the egg is, if she is just starting to form the egg then im sure she could reabsorb it. You might question if they abort eggs more so then reabsorb them.

This Sunday will make four weeks since she has been bred. I have another female that was bred the same day and she laid 2 healthy eggs in three weeks. They are both first time breeders so I expect it to take a little longer, but I can no longer see the eggs in her belly. She has not lost any weight and is still nice and round so it seems as if she is still gravid.

I noticed last week that she had been digging a couple of test holes but I have not witnessed any activity since then. She has not shown any interest in food for about 10 days, so am starting to get a little worried.

The fact that she has not lost any weight makes me think that she still has the eggs and the weight of the eggs is countering the body weight she may be losing.

Two days ago she finally took a decent sized dubia. Now, this evening I looked in and she is mid shed.

Could the anticipation of a shed cause her postpon egg laying. I know it's a long shot but I had to ask.

I looked back in my notes and saw that she was bred on 3/25. It has not even been 4 weeks, but the other female bred on the same day layed on 4/15. Yes I know that each female will be different, but she looks like she is ready to pop.
