I switched to this moss thinking they couldnt injest it, because the strings are so long!! WRONG!!
Last night when on my cleaning run, I noticed a large mass in the corner of the tank. It was moss that he had pooped out, a bunch of it. I thought he was acting a little strange yesterday. But he did eat a few crix (only 2).
This morning when I checked on him, he was in the corner trying to pass another mass of poop mixed with moss but could not pass it.
He was walking around the tank with this hanging out of him
I had to go in there with my tweezers and gently pull it out.
I pulled 2 long strings of spagnum moss out of his butt!!
I hope he is rid of it, but I wont know until I check his next BM!
I took the moss out of his moist hide and replaced it with the only thing I could think of, paper towle (whole ones, not pieces!!)
I'm suprised he didnt just get a bad case of impacktion!!!
I'll just have to keep an eye on him for a few days.

Can anyone please suggest a moist hide substrate that cant be injested?

DAnG that leo is a glutton for punishment!

I have moss in mine, it is the sticky and short kind, my leo loves it though, anywear it is, she is. Never though has she ingested so I don't know what to say

Maybe potting soiling or vermiculite?

Thank god she/he is ok.
I really am scared of my moss now.

Yeah, I'm taking all the moss out of everybodys moist hides!!

We're lucky this didnt cause a more serious problem :(

He seems okay now, perky and wide-eyed. We'll see if he
eats anything today (moss is OFF the menu!!!).

I have some old small face clothes that I will use instead.

I was using cloth...but someone (STAN) told me to use moss. So I went out and bought moss. And 2 weeks later he says, my gecko almost died from the moss. Take it out.

Lol, I'm just messin with ya :D.
It is a huge relief, and I will be watching mine closely.

Ha, I am keeping it in there, but I am gonna watch them. To make sure mine aren't extra dumb.

Yeah, it just goes to show, there will always be one leo who doesnt want to
follow any of the rules!!

That's right, dont be affraid to use the moss.
I have been using it for years and have never had a problem.

If you start seeing it in their poop, you may want to take it out.

I think he was shedding in his moist hide, and since he likes to eat his
shed, I guess the moss got tangled in it and he ate it by mistake.
