Warning: really long, and sad.
Ok so here is the story, I work at a pet store, a big national chain, and a lady brought in a leopard gecko on a heat rock, and a baking cup for a water bowl and that was it. He was shedding and couldnt even keep his head straight, it is still tilted. Anyway i have always wanted a leopard gecko so i said i would adopt him. well i didnt know what i was getting into, i had him for now a total of 6 days, within the first 4 days, i got a new tank put enough heaters on him to raise him up to 85, got him a humid hide, got him new decorations, new water bowl, food bowl, the works. Well what is sad was that he couldnt open his eyes, but you could still tell while he limped around the tank that he loved it. I took him to my vet this past wendesday the 17th and she said...well he has infections in both his eyes, one of the eye infection spread to his ear, he cant get his toe shed off becuase he isnt hydrated enough, and who knows what else is wrong with him. She gave me an ointment to put on both eyes, force feed him crickets, and soak him. He loves his humid hide, lol he is in there like all the time. Today when i picked him up to feed him and put on his ointment, he felt like he had a lot more strength than before. Ok now the lady who brought him in said he was around 13 years old...how he has made it this far i dont know. but my question is when will his eyes start opening up and i dont have to shove crickets down his throat? this is the 3 rd day doing the ointment and he can open them when he gets mad at me, but as soon as i put him back in his cage he shuts them again and heads for his humid hide. also he does not have any impaction at all, thankfully. he is in a 20 long gallon tank, with an undertank heater, alternating day and night bulbs plus a ceramic heater...and its barely at 85, (i have a cold house). so any other suggestions of what i should do? the vet said on wednesday he weighed .28 of a gram. she looked up at me and said "you have a fighter get him fat by monday!" so thats what i have been doing, on the first day i force feed him he hate 15 small crickets without me shoving them down his throat he ate them off my hemostat. and now we are down to like 3 to 5 small crickets a day. is that normal? should i make him eat more? when do i stop putting them down his throat?
P.S. this is my first ever reptile
