Huh, well then. I think I might just put a lot more hides in her tank for her for now. I'm going to be buying a rack soon and she'll be going in there. :)

Just a thought, maybe being in a large 40 gallon is stressing her, I tried to put my girl into a 40 gallon and she got super stressed and even lost weight and when I moved her back to her 20L and she is fine again. So now I just finished splitting the 40 gallon for my two other two leopard geckos. Not sure but I know some leos like bigger tanks and some like the security of a smaller one.
Did you use the same hides? I imagine that a 40 gallon would be fine as long as there were plenty of hides available. I know a few people here keep their leos in 40 gallons without issue. I use a 20 long and have three dry hides. If I were using a 40 gallon, I'd probably have five or six.

Right now I only have two hides in her tank, which I know is definitely not enough. I need to go get some more!

I agree with the others. It's a larger tank than she is used to with not enough hides. You don't have a smaller tank around to house her in? Or how about adding some homemade hides?

Yeah, that's probably the issue. You could probably just use pretty much anything around the house (as long as it's clean) until you can get something better. I know I've seen people with turned over containers and cut holes in the sides.

I have used butter tubs, tupperware, legos in a pinch. Actually 2/3 of my humid hides are plastic containers because they are great for humid hides.

My male would freak if I ever put him in a 40g. He's very reclusive, and does not like extra space.
My female on the other hand would do great - she's constantly roaming around her 20g and climbing her decor, trying to get out. Once out, she loves roaming around and it's very difficult to get her back in her tank.

It all depends on the gecko, but I'm inclined to agree with the others - I don't think she's used to the extra space and she doesn't feel secure. More hides would be ideal. Most of my hides in all of my enclosures are made out of tupperware - Tupperware came from the dollar store, and I just bought some duct tape with fancy designs to make them a bit more interesting and unique. Definitely a lot cheaper than buying reptile-specific hides and just as functional.

Yeah definitely get more hides, I have 3 hides dry hides, and when she sheds I put in a humid hide. Echo has 1 fairly large cave, a little log hide, and I just got one of those multi level cave hides. And for the humid hide I just put in a tupperwear container wrapped with wet paper towels and I lay down a wet paper towel for her feet as well.

Why do you only put the humid hide in when she's shedding? Leos don't use it only when they're in shed.

I leave my humid hides in all 3 leos tanks, my girl Venus spends every night in hers digging around and making a nest. You might want to try eco earth in the humid hide, it stays moist for days and doesn't smell like moss does. I just switched to it and already love it.

I love the Eco Earth. I just mix it up once in a while to keep it nice and 'fluffy.' She likes digging in it.

Same here, and I have to add stuff to my girls hide because she throws it out digging around. My other 2 are only in theirs a few times a week but she stays in hers all night and then stays in her warm hide during the day.

That's cute - and why I definitely wouldn't want to keep it in there only when they're in shed.

I usually do always have a humid hide in there at all times. Just as of late I haven't been keeping it in there because a lot of things are misplaced and moved around with us in the process of switching substrate. So for now, 3 dry hides and humid if she sheds. Once her terrarium is complete with the new tiles we will continue to keep 3 dry and 1 humid at all times. I did however just now put in the humid hide because she has been sleeping outside her caves lately and maybe the humid will attract her to sleep inside.
