just give it time. you have the entire rest of the season for them to ovulate. be patient :)

Have you tried the trick where you take something of the males, say a paper towel in his cage and put it in the girls cage. Leave it in the girls cage for several days or a week and then bow chica bow wow. I think that works wonders.:D

They are seperate and the paper towel trick did nothing. I guess its just time that they need

Are you still using the paper towel technique? It is a simple trick but not as simple as placing a paper towel in and BOOOM you get eggs LOL:D! The females need time to pick up on his scent. They need to be consistently reminded that there is a male around. Don't give up on it, it works.:main_thumbsup:

Try swapping their hides, that's what works for mine. Plus it's early in the season. Even though we can influence them, they'll still do it on their own natural time... good luck

IMO no real start and end if you have varying age ladies as they will ovulate throughout the year as they mature (and how many clutches they lay). In Late '08 through '09 I had all stages from ovulating females to eggs to growing hatchlings. Seems the "kick off" is usually mid winter into spring when all the great hatchlings pics start to show up tho.

When does breeding season start and end anyway?

IMO and experience, breeding is timed with the change in seasons with their varied light cycles and temperature changes and maybe even precipitation differences. I know many people see their geckos breeding year round, but with the dozens of breeding geckos I've had in the past I never saw year-round breeding seasons. They typically started laying eggs between Jan-Apr and ran through Sep-Nov. I did not manipulate temps or lighting and we kept moderate temps throughout the house (we lived in Washington State, Maryland, California, Tokyo). VA has had a rough winter that may be contributing to Keith's delays compared to his other geckos.

Is it possible these purebred Afghans breed at different times/schedules than our other leopards?

Today was the first breeding of one of our Afghans but the others have yet to start. Snows, Sunglows, Tangerines and some crosses have already laid and going into another clutch. This is the first year with this many Afghans and we keep good records on all of that so after a while we can trend the months.

My geckos that weren't breeding which are usually everyone favorite groups it seems to happen, but I covered 3 of the 4 sides with black construction paper and my males instantly bred to all the females they had in their cages with them, so try that out, it can really help a lot.
