Hello everyone, My 12 yr old daughter got theses two lizards at the Havre de Grace show and she was told they were African Long tailed Lizards. Does anyone know about them including their care and sexing. They were suppose to be $10 each but he sold her a pair for $10 Here is their pictures. The one thats a male can be crazy and fast, the female is calm and likes to be handled. They are cool looking but I thought I'd ask you all before searching the web. Thanks Deb

I spent the whole day on the internet and can't find these Lizards. Many sites don't have pictures. If anyone can help me please do because I need to figure out how to house them. Right now they are in my rack system but I know that isn't right because they like to climb I am sure. Its just been so cold at night I figured they need heat. I can take more pics as needed too. Thanks, Deb

I saw those also. I do not think they are the same, Body structure is very similar but none have the same color or pattern. I am positive though that they need a Heat lamp and Light and they do climb so I am sure they need a tank also but I would really like to figure these out. I find it very strange that I can't find them. They must have another name or something. Thanks for checking for me and if anyone knows an expert on Lizards please let me know. Thanks, Deb

Do you have the sellers contact info? I'm surprised they didn't tell you any information. Maybe you can try calling a zoo or something? I wonder if there is some kinda "Ask the Expert" on animalplanet.com too.... I dunno, sorry I couldn't help more.

Thanks Scott and Nikki, I appreciate any help I can get. I am going to put them in a tank and add some rocks, branches and fake plants for now and I will try a Heat lamp around 90( because they seem to stay on the 90 side of the tub in my rack anyway). I will add water, mealworms, crickets and what ever else in bugs I have to see what they like. I will also put a UVA/UVB Light too and see how they act. I will see the guy at the Manassas show this weekend and ask him some questions. It was closing time when my daughter saw him and got these lizards so I wasn't able to get back to him. But he vends where ever I vend so I should find something out on Sat I just hope they do OK this way for now.I just really find it strange I cannot find them anywhere on the net. I am going to also check my Lizard book. Lizards A-Z. Thanks again. Deb :D

They resemble my yellow throated plated lizard (african plated lizard) do a search for african plated lizards, i would imagine its the same care, they look like they are close relatives. Btw they like to burrow;-) Id recommend a 20 gallon long with that bark bedding stuff

You might want to try contacting Steve (Kellis Husband) he is a zookeeper, I am pretty sure, and I am sure he might know what it is, I too can't believe they didn't give you more information.

If you think they came from the Americas I might say they look a lot like a "whiptail".

hmm, hopefully someone can help poor deb out soon. Like I said earlier, it looks to me like it has the head of a plated lizard, but I dont know much more than that.

Honestly... it looks like a lot of things. I've started searches like 8 different times. I've really been trying to figure this one out. everything that seems close in 1 respect is very different in another. I have yet to see any lizards bodies that have that pattern, texture, or shape. I found 2 or 3 species with similar heads, many with similar legs/feet and a couple with VERY similar tails (width, length, texture). But those that have these similarities dont resemble her pictures in other ways.

I'm starting to think you have the only 1 in the world lol. And, I'm very angry you posted this now. I should be studying for finals, but instead im searching the web for your lizard ;)
