So I went in to the gecko's room to clean their tanks, and surprise surprise! Lois decided to lay 2 perfect little eggs in one of her hides (oddly enough she ignored the lay chamber I made her lol). They were still warm, I actually watched her lay the second. I promptly turned the hovabator on, and ran out to start mixing the perlite, however I have no idea how wet it is supposed to be. I got it damp with warm water to help them not cool so much while I'm waiting for the hovabator to heat up to the 85 degrees. I feel like a chicken with my head cut off lol. Any tips guys? I'll add a pic of the eggs in just a minute or so...

I do 6 parts perlite, and 4 parts water. It works great. Then if you want males put the Bator at 88, females 80, and for a mix at 85. Then be careful if they just came out, because they are like water balloons.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I noticed right away that they are SUPER soft and squishy at first. I marked the tops to make sure I didn't rotate them too much, and then put them half down in the Perlite/water mixture. I don't think I have too much water...it still will crumble if I squish it into a ball. I'll just keep an eye on the eggs for awhile.

Congratulations, I got my first two eggs yesterday. One already failed, but the other one looks just like yours. Hoping it lasts. :D

Well then ours should be hatching out about the same time...I am keeping the bator at 85 degrees, give or take 1. I'm so nervous!

I am nervous as well. The other egg is looking good, hovering around 82 degrees (no incubator, but it's on the hot side of my tank, and my thermostat is indicating 82 degrees inside the container). Gonna be picking up a Hova-bator as soon as money allows...hoping all goes well.

Thanks guys. I've got my fingers crossed. The Hovabator is keeping a steady temperature in there, so it's going well so far. I actually lucked out and picked up the Hovabator for $20 from the same guy I got the geckos from.

I do have one question though...I see that some people put the lids on the containers inside the incubator, and some on set the lids on there, not all the way. Then I see that some people take them off periodically. Is there a rule to this? As of right now I have the lids on, so get the humidity and temp up on them.

Good luck with the eggs. They look good.

As for the lids, I just open mine 1-2 times a week to let in some air and check on the eggs.

Thanks Kristi, I figured something like that. Although, being that this is my first clutch, I'll probably be checking on them once a day lol, at least peeking at them.

Also, do I need to re-wet the medium as it dries a bit?

Sorry I ask so many stupid questions...I just want to do everything as perfectly as possible!

I just keep my container air tight. Some say to lift them every week for air exposure. So far I haven’t done this to well, and nothing seem to go wrong. But if you have the time, lift them. I cannot think of a negative consequence for this.

This is also why I have a deli cup with no wholes that is air tight. I don’t have to worry about the moister, just set them in the incubator and let them hatch.

Oh, and to me the eggs look fertile!!!!!! I know I was stoked when I got my first clutch. It went bad, but then when you get some that hatch, it is always nice!!!!! :main_thumbsup:

Make sure to post pics when they do hatch. :D

Of course! Right now I'm not working (new business in the process) so I'm home a lot of the time. I hope to catch them hatching :) It's quite funny...I should have known she was going to lay them today because she shoo'd the male out of "their" hide, and he's ALWAYS in the same one as her. Now they are back in there cuddled up as can be. If I can just get my other female fattened up, hopefully I'll get a clutch from her. The guy I got them from said that her first clutch was huge, so we'll see :) I just want her to be good and healthy first.

Well I took the eggs out to check on them today, and I decided to try the candle method to look for the bullseye I've been told about. I'm positive I saw it in the first egg, but not so sure about the second, although I do see multiple blood veins in both of the eggs. Here are a few quick pictures I snapped...sorry they aren't great! I didn't want to drop the eggs :anxious:

Both these she laid outside the humid hide, inside the log hide on the hot side of the tank. I heard a scuffle when she kicked the male out (they are ALWAYS cuddled up together), and that's when I knew something was up, so I watched her closely until I knew she laid them. Fortunately inside the hide is visible from the side of the tank and I saw her lay the second one and quickly scooped them up and into the bator they went! I think that log hide is their favorite thing in the tank hands down. As you can see...they get quite relaxed :D
