Sad to say we lost this female tonight! Her health had been deteriorating for over a month now and nothing we could do seemed to help. She was about 2MO gravid at this point and dehydrated. We'd been adding pedialyte to her water, but she barely drank. We did everything we could to no avail.

Unfortunately my camera batteries died out after these few pics. Either way it was not pretty! I thought I'd post the negative side of breeding as we usually only get to see the great litters and baby pics galore during this time of the year. Sooner or later we all face this when dealing with living creatures and the risks involved in breeding.

Sorry for your loss. I can see she is VERY dehydrated from all the wrinkled skin. How many eggs did you find?

Thanks, when it was all over she had 12 slugs. Even if she would've gone full term she would've slugged out.

I'm no vet, but other than the dehydration I did not find anything obvious as a cause of death. It's just one of those things, some females handle gestation better than others. It just wasn't meant to be...

Oh, man, I am so sorry. Was this the first time she was bred?
Jeff Ronne just lost his hypo monster tail, "The Beauty" and we lost our "Baby Girl" this last year for no apparent reason. Its such hard part to deal with and such a tragedy when it happens.

All our heart-felt condolenses. Thats really rough.

Thanks guys, this was going to be her 1st litter. I know about Jeff losing his Hypo, that was one of the best I had seen! I know a few others that have lost females during gestation this year already. It is sad and even though we know the risks, it is still difficult to experience.

Sorry about your "baby girls" T&K.
How did you lose her?

She was bred accidentally and I think she was too small (about 5 and a half feet). She had one baby, Eden, a stillbirth and 6 slugs. The vet could never figured out what happened to her, everything seemed normal, physically, she just got very sick after Eden was born and died. Tim was right there with her when she took her last breath.
Needless to say, Eden is the most spoiled rotten little baby we have now.

That's sad, but at least you have Eden to carry on for her.
Somethings just can't be explained as to why they happen.

Yes, she went through the breeding like clockwork and all was perfect. She went through her swell, ovulation, pos, she looked great. Then all of a sudden she just started to lose interest in feeding, which is somewhat normal, but then she also started to look dehydrated and it all went downhill from there.
