While I understand belly heat is key, what is a good ambient air temp. I was thinking about getting a low wattage red lamp for some extra heat. Air temps seems to be in the 70's and it just seems a bit too low. Thanks.

This is my (frequently posted) opinion on the subject: I feel that the ambient air temp inside the warm-side hide is probably pretty decent since the hide will trap the heat. If the gecko needs to be warm all over, it can stay in the warm hide. I don't provide any other heat. The ambient temp in my house during the day in winter is probably in the low to mid 60's. In support of this, my reptile vet feels strongly that the increase in eye problems he's seeing in leopard geckos is due to people keeping the temps too high and the gecko getting dehydrated leading to the eyelid getting stuck to the eye.

Never really thought about the warm air being trapped in the hide. LOL. I tend to overthink things sometimes.

I also did search "ambient air temps" and didn't come up with much.
