aug of last year me and amber were driving down a long stretch of highway because she wanted to see a job i was working on. im very good at watching my suroundings and i realyl dont miss a thing. so from about 100 yards i see something in the middle of the road. i knew exactly what it was and i swearved around it, pulled the Ebreak, spun around and went back. i stoped a big truck from running it over. it ofcourse reached back and tried to bite me but i wasnt worried.. it wasnt the first snapper ive handled. he was easiely 1 1/2 times bigger than toilet seat cover. more than big enough to bite a hand off. i pulled him off the middle of the road, and put him back by the pond he came from. i dont know what he was doing in the road, and he probably went back, but for that moment i did save him..... i love doing that kinda stuff.
just a common snapper but he was pretty cool

Awesome! I always make my parents stop the car if I see a turtle. Once it was by a narrow underpass with a weird curve though, the people behind us were not pleased.

Awesome snapper, its so cute! There's a stretch of road in my neighborhood that now has "caution (snapping) turtle crossing" signs because one got hit and a little girl who lived in the area decided to help prevent more accidents by raising money for the signs.

That is so sweet of that girl doing that for the turtles I think that they should have those signs up anyway

Good work, man.

I am especially fond of C. serpentina among most turtles. I don't where your location is, exactly, relative to my youth stomping grounds, but if you are close to Churchville Reservoir, visit it during the summer. If you spend enough time there, you will find some monstrous snappers. The biggest I have seen and I have seen many thousands over the years.

It figures you would compare the size of something to a toilet seat... You are a sick boy...

Cool save Nev... I hatched out 20 of them in 2008... Found a nest being raided by racoons while I was out night herping... Dug up what was left and incubated them... All the eggs hatched and I released the hatchlings in the lake about 35 yards from where the nest was...

We have a MONSTROUS snapper that lives a creek that runs under a bridge on my private road. When it rains, he comes up and soaks in the puddles. :p Lucky for him, you can't miss em'.

Such cool creatures. Thanks for sharing!
