And then there were four... (happy ending!)

Last night while I was feeding my group of five female geckos I noticed something just wasn't quite right. One of my albinos, Beanie hadn't made an appearance. A normally very curious gecko that always comes out of hiding when I'm in the room. A quick check of the tank confirmed my worst fear. She'd gotten out.

So I started talking to the other geckos, calling her name occasionally while I started looking. It didn't take me long. I have a table in one corner that has gobs of stuff under it. Buckets, tanks, tubs of supplies, so I cut my search short and headed to that corner. I was terrified of moving things while looking and possibly hurting her though.

I don't know where in the pile she'd been hiding, but thankfully by the time I got over there I had to lift one empty 5gal bucket out of the way and there she stood! I can't describe the relief that washed over me. Luckily she had only been out less than 12 hours. I felt so bad for her when I felt how cool she was. Even though the room she was in is kept at 78 she was pretty chilly to the touch for a leo.

So now she's spending time in a 30g quarantine tank untill I know she's ok. She's not happy about it but I just didn't feel safe putting her right back in with the other girls.

Here's my question. I quarantine all new geckos in a separate room for two months. Should I give her that long as well, or is a shorter stay more fitting?

This made me LOL, I can see myself doing that...:main_laugh:

Seriously though, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you think she was exposed to any other reptiles that haven't been fully quarantined, or unsanitary reptile supplies...it might be a good idea to watch her for a week or so for any obvious injuries, but if she was healthy before she went on her little adventure then i'm sure she'll be fine. I'm glad you found her and there were no tragic accidents :)

Once while cleaning a tank, I put my two geckos along with some hides in a small cardboard box that used to be full of Cheryl's Cookies. The box is ON TOP OF A DRESSER which is 3-4 feet tall. Anyways, I look under the hides and noticed that Nike escaped. I found her at the bottom of the dresser on the backside of it. What made me think was the fact that she didn't drop, she crawled. I would have heard it if she dropped, but I didn't. They're crazy.

BTW, I can safely say that I don't talk to our geckos...maybe I should?

Lol, I talk to all of them. Since I only have 10, each has a name, and each is different from the others in personality. Beanie has always been my nieces favorite gecko because she can sit outside their tank and call her name, and she'll come out to investigate for possible treats.

There aren't any unsanitary reptile supplies on the floor, but I do keep birds. So no matter how much I vacuum there is always an assortment of fluff down and dander, along with seed hulls in that corner. The birds are healthy, just messy as normal with.

Hehehe, She's going to have to sit in "Leo Jail" for at least a week though lol.
