Another eating ques.

My girl Trixy is not eating or defecating now and has me worried. I got her on Jan 5th weighing 7g. She's a big eater so by the 21st she was up to 14g (breeder says hatched mid Oct.). On the 29th she ate one cricket and regurgitated and has not eaten since. I have seen her drinking water from her dish everyday and have been giving her liquid calcium. The only thing that I can think of that would have got her feeling bad is a couple weeks ago a cricket was loose in the moss and she went for it and got a mouth full. Luckily I was standing there and I thought I got it all away from her. She is going to the vet in the morning but just curious on what to expect? She is down to 12g now. She has still been very active until today. Any info would be great, thanks!

Anyone? I've only taken dogs and cats to the vet so I just don't know what to expect. Do they do xrays, oral medication, etc? Her appt is in 2 hrs. I'm going to a new vet because mine is booked for over 2 weeks but he told me to get her in asap somewhere. I'm just nervous and hope everything goes okay.

Well, that was a completely pointless trip to the vet. I don't think he had ever even seen a leopard gecko before. He said I was doing everything great and he didn't notice any impaction, for me just to keep him updated then charged me $70. He never even took her out of the carrier. I'm so upset and hope she starts eating soon. :(

Well, first off, read this article by GeckoTime magazine. Our fellow geckoforums member wrote it about "Why isn't my gecko eating?" It's a great article. Here's the link

Now, what is your husbandry like? Tank size, substrate, heatsource, food items you've tried, any supplements, moist hide?

What did the vet do? Did he do xrays at all?

I have a 65g tank with 4 babies together, they came from the same place and have always been together. There are multiple hides so they each have one plus a couple extra. Repti carpet, humid hide with splagnum moss, cool hide. Offered cricket, mealworms, and occasional wax worm. 95 on hot side, 80 on cool. Food dusted with calcium and a calcium dish with them at all times. The vet did not do xrays or anything. I took her in a small hermit crab container in a box so the warmers were under the container. He kept her in it and looked at her belly through the plasic and said he didn't see any impaction. I have not changed anything lately so I have no clue as to why she stopped eating. I absolutely love her and don't want things to get worse.

If there's any way possible for you to separate the one that isn't eating, that's probably a good start. Hate to say it, but you are doing everything right....

Seems as if you are going to need to be a bit of a pest with this veterinarian...either that or find one another who's used to seeing reptiles. I'd call him back and tell him you're unhappy with the way your animal is acting and you think that it warrants further attention from him. Tell him you're worried since the animal is a juvenile, and you're concerned about growth process...if he still blows you off, find another vet who's willing to take the case. You should have all 4 geckos tested for parasites at some point as well.

Thank you. She is seperated now. I'm going to get make her some gecko soup tonight. Vet told me to let him know in the morning if there is any change. If not, hopefully he will do something then. There are 3 vets here and all see reptiles but not much. May have to take a road trip if things don't get better soon

I fed her gecko soup last night and she took it well. Defecated 2 times, just small amounts the same color as the food. Since it passed through does it mean she's not impacted? Still no interest in her food.
