I can't make my mind up, when my gerbil passes away I will have room for another Leo. But I can't make my mind up if I should go ahead and get one or just get another couple of gerbils. The one thing that is putting me off is having another animal thats going to live a very long time.

I'm not sure I would use a tank that a small animal had lived in for a gecko. The ammonia in their pee might linger and create an unhealthy environment.

I personally loved my gerbils when I was younger. They were the second best fuzzy pets I had - guinea pigs will always be my favorite :) Gerbils are a bit more work IMO than reptiles, but they're definitely more active and you can hold them all day and night without stressing them out much. They're genetics are pretty interesting too! I was breeding black, cinnamon and dove colored pieds for a 4-H project. That was back in the 80s and I bet there might be even more colors uncovered by now!! I might have to go find out now....haha. It probably depends on whether you'd rather have an active pet you can hold and watch run around all day or a lower maintenance pet that you can hold and watch a few times a week :)

Good luck deciding!!

Its the same Tank Rio grew up in and she had no health problems growing up. She now in a wooded viv. Foxy now in a gerbilarium so the tank is acherly out in the shed at the mo. But would get a massive clean.

That is also the other thing that apeals about another Leo is they are so easy. The handling thing isn't an issue as most of my gerbils have never been of the handling type. They are fun to watch though.

hmmm

I have some time as the tank can't come back in the house untill the gerbil passes away witch I hope if not gonna be for another few months.

leaning towards more gerbils at the mo. I think I would miss watching and talking to them

I say if you like the gerbils, get more instead of another gecko. I have my geckos and african pygmy mice. I bred dwarf hamsters for awhile too :). Rodents are great in a different way then geckos. And geckos are great in a different way then rodents. So i say keep both :). Ive seen siamese and burmese gerbils online and would love to have some of those colors but sadly cant find any local

not that common in the UK but you do find the odd occational one or 2 in the pet shops, I've had both colours.

I did have one litter sadly she only had 3 and they were all black. I am thinking in furture I may breed again.
