Ooooohhhh, I'm so sorry, David and Tamara! What a tragedy. It sounds like she dropped her tail from stress, and she couldn't survive the toxins from literally thousands of ant bites.
These ants send out scouts for food, and then they leave a scent trail for the rest to follow. It's really strange how they seem to pick just one tub/tank. I know my racks were swarming with them but it was only two adjacent tubs they got in to.
