I'm just wondering if i'm the only person who was totally freaked out by herps and now really likes them? i hate to say it(please don't hurt me:eek: ), but i was a snake killer when i was younger. other than keeping lizard eggs when i was little(don't worry, we let them go as soon as they hatched;) ), i could stand herps. and now i want a leo(don't tell my mom, she's freaked enough about the leo, but i also want a crestie and some dart frogs:main_evilgrin: ). mom can't figure it out. and quite frankly, i don't have a clue either as to what brought about the 180 in the last year.
so, any one else use to hate herps? i'm just wondering how common it is.....:main_huh:

I wouldn't say I hated them, but I was somewhat afraid of snakes. I bought a BP despite it making me nervous. I'm much better now! I've pretty much always liked frogs and lizards.

I have always loved lizards.
I used to like snakes too. When I was little, my older Brothers kept
lots of snakes (we lived in Florida at that time) and I would handle them
without fear.
I still like snakes, but I dont want one because I am afraid of getting bit! :p
I know lizards bite too, but I am not afraid of them.
I guess it's a "image" thing. Snakes have that evil reputation from movies, etc. (like spiders) so you are brainwashed early in life that snakes are nasty and live to bite and kill humans. The whole "evil satanic" snake Bible image thing!! :main_rolleyes:

I used to hate snakes, b/c of common misconceptions and what you have to feed them...rodents...eeehw! Can't stand them. But when i got into Western hognose, i slowly got used to handling rodents...i still hate them. But i couldn't resist the hoggies...really sweet creatures. I had cali king, honduran milks, bal pythons in the past. Never been bitten.

Snakes

Snakes scare me I will never own one. I would be too afraid to feed it. :main_yes: I would not say hate, just scared to death of snakes big time. However my gecko's are cute and I love them.

I was pretty much the opposite. I remember getting a whooping like none other when my mom discovered me playing with a little green snake I found in the back yard when I was little. Ill never forget that....it was harmless but my mom was terrified to see her little girl playing with a snake lol.

I was never a fan of herps as a kid thanks to an incident with an Anole which led to recurring nightmares. When I married a herp lover my thoughts changed a little when after we adopted a 3 legged Chameleon. We've owned all sorts of different herps since then...just no Anoles. LOL

I was always more inclined to get a puppy, or a kitten, or even a hamster...something fuzzy and warm. Although I do, as a child, remember playing with little garden snakes hehe.

One day I was on craigslist, searching through the animals for sale just for fun, and I came across a breeder selling off his older leos. I was in awe...I never knew reptiles came in such bright and beautiful colors! Since then it's been downhill...I find every herp beautiful and interesting. My husband is coming around to it :) I actually caught him holding our latest rescue this morning, trying to feed it some slurry :D
