I'm almost 2 months into my fourth breeding season and things are going more slowly than I'd hoped. I have 8 breeding females (although one really doesn't count given past performance and she will be retiring after this season) and 4 males. The males have all done the deed and I had 3 eggs in the incubator, one of which (from a first-timer) went bad. I'm not really looking for advice, just a little commiseration. I just looked at my last year's journal and see that at this time last year I had 4 eggs, so maybe I'm not so far off; it just seems as if it's taking forerver. I may be more worried this time around because last year I had an unexplained rash of infertile eggs in the middle of the season, so I'm less confident than before.

OK. Now I feel better. Back to waiting.

I've got 2 eggs I feel you. My other girls are deciding the hovering between 38-41 grams. My other girl within a few days, I'm expecting 4 more. Witch will total to 6 eggs. Slow starts :main_thumbsdown:

Although if I space out getting hatchlings less space on the hatchling rack!!

I would have to say yes. Although I have 20 leo eggs incubating and 8 fat tails I have had a slew of infertile eggs similar to what you had last year Aliza. *scratching head*And like Marcia the majority of my females aren't even ovulating. It must be the cold Reno weather...

Kinda slow here as well. I have alot of females that are breeders this year but most of them have just started ovulating. Although my group is kinda split I have around 50 eggs in the cooker already. But thats all from only about half my females that of size and age. Looks like quite a few of us will be having a late season.

Here's where we're at as of tonight...

35 eggs laid
14 infertile or failed
0 hatchlings

I'm hoping a new incubator brings the number of failed eggs down!:main_thumbsup:

We just got eggs from our last female tonight so every one of our females has laid at least one clutch.

Mine hasn't even started. My first year male doesn't know the difference from her head or bottom and he is being very agressive so I am watching him very closely. And my other male is a second year breeder but the females aren't ovulating so they don't want nothing to do with him. Man this is harsh!

I really can't complain for my first year. So far, this is where I'm at:

2 ovulating females that were just bred
2 gravid females laying
12 eggs in the 'bators (1 that candles yellow, but I'm letting it stay till it stinks ;) )
4 hatchlings

Do those of you having a slow start this year think it's slower than previous years, or are we all just more impatient?

Aliza, last year I had all 70 eggs by March 19th. This year im getting a few more, therefore I am spreading it out. So it is my fault. By spreading it out, 3-4 maybe 5 a month pairings.

Its my first season breeding. My second year female(bred with the breeder I got her from), has layed 6 eggs so far, 1 was infertile, the others are looking good, and 1 is about to hatch. I think this season is going pretty good for me!
