big mamma dicided that she wanted to push all of her cypress(and i mean all of it) to one back corner. this made a 3" high mound of mulch that she just curles up on. it reminds me of what some of the pythons do to make a more humid area to lay their eggs. any thoughts? i asked a friend who is a vet, he also said thats what it sounds like.

thanks

Yup. Sounds familiar!
Our girls rip apart their newspaper and will make the biggest messes you've ever seen, but they're nesting. :p

In the past whenever I've used Aspen for substrate in with gravid Boas, they sometimes moved it around a bit as you described. Almost to make a mound or a hole depending on the temps they needed.

If the temps are too cool and she wanted to get closer the the hot spot, she may move the substrate away in order to get closer to the heat. If it's too hot, she may make a mound to separate herself a bit in order to get the temp just right for her to hold that body temp she needs. At least that's my theory when I have seen this done.

Now that I just use Kraft Indented Paper, they just move from one end of the cage to the other to adjust their body temps and keep that 87F body temp as needed.
