To me it appears to be a hernia...although there is no way to tell for sure without an x-ray or a mini-ultrasound (yes, it's possible...) If the gecko is/was having issues eating I would get her to a vet....has she been having normal, regular bowel movements?

If it's a hernia she'll require surgery. A hernia is when a part of the intestine wiggles its way through a tear in the abdominal wall. In some cases, this can cause the bowels to become compressed, not allowing proper blood flow to the intestine or letting food pass. If this is the case, it could kill your gecko.

I've never seen a hernia on a gecko before, but that was my first impression when I saw the picture. Hernias can occur virtually spontaneously, so it can literally occur overnight. If this was a tumor of some sort you would see changes over a much longer period of time.

If that gecko isn't eating, you should take her to the vet ASAP. Mild hernias may not have to be treated (I actually have a mild one myself, but I don't have the $10K to fix it), but mild hernias often aren't that big either.

She could've been pinched by something in the cage, twisted wrong during handling or moving around, or any other number of factors. In humans, hernias often occur when some sort of stress is placed on an already weakened area, for example, a hernia could occur during heavy lifting or exercise.

I'm not 100% sure if that's what this is, but it's an educated guess. A good vet would know. I know Reptiles magazine a few issues back had an excellent directory of reptile vets by state. I would suggest asking people on this forum if there's a good reptile vet in your area.

For what it's worth, I believe Vanessa's got it 100% correct...as far as a veterinarian in Malaysia...I really have no idea...there was someone who posted here that lives in Malaysia though...maybe they could help you out...

I'm from Malaysia. Unfortunately, for the past 8 years of keeping reptiles, I would like to add there are no qualified reptile vet in our country. Some of them may have papers to prove otherwise (such as in our National Zoo or the Federal Wildlife Department) but they pretty much do a way worse job than most well-researched hobbyists. And I am talking from my own experience for the past years keeping reptiles in Malaysia.

bloodphyton, do research about the active ingredients of the said drug to cure hernia in reptiles, if any. After that, do research on the required dosage (further calculation may be required) and application process needed. This will be a gamble...just like always. But what ever you do, please be subtle to avoid any OD.

I would like to help, unfortunately I haven't come across such cases in my collection before.

All the best and good luck.

Regards

As far as I know, there is no drug to 'cure' a hernia. A hernia is like a broken bone, it generally requires actual surgery to fix. It's a physical injury, not a pathological disease.

And I didn't even look at your location when I posted. I hope you guys can find at least somebody who could take a look at that gecko.
