Apparently I've adopted another one....

I just adpoted a cat a few months ago, but apparently I'm a cat magnet and there's another that has more or less adopted me. She's a stray calico and is very sweet, but I don't think she's in the best of health. She doesn't seem or act sick really but she's pretty skinny and looks to be in the later stagest of pregnancy. Is there anything I can do for her other than just make sure she keeps eating well to put weight back on? I've made her a house outside and she's been eating extremely well since she's been here, I just want to make sure she's in good health when her kittens get here. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

Get her fixed, we don't want even more of an overpopulation. Give her a nice quiet place where she can be alone. If you find it safe then you can go ahead and give her raw meat, I've given my cat chicken( i dunno if yours can take big chunks so if you do give her meat then cut them into smaller pieces).:main_thumbsup: Search the web for tips.

Well, I can't get her fixed until she has her kittens. I'm not sure if I am going to be keeping her permanently yet. I may be just fostering her until her little ones get here and then putting her up for adoption. Thanks for the tips tho!! :)

If she's pregnant, you should be feeding her kitten food. Meat like chicken and beef isn't the best thing right now...the kitten chow is formulated for pregnant mommas and kittens.

As horrible as it sounds, you could always bring her to the humane society, have her spayed and abort the kittens.

If not, you need to have her de-wormed, and be ready to find homes for a bunch of kittens...who you're going to have to bring to the vet & get shots for. When mom is done nursing, she needs to be spayed and vaccinated. I hope you are ready for this huge responsibility. Good luck.

Just like pregnant dogs!!! They need (unlimited) puppy food too!!!!! I'm not a vet tech(like you) but I personally think that you can give the raw meat as treats.

Thank guys! :) We actually already have a cat that's about 4 or 5 months old so she's getting the kitten food as suggested, and a lot of it too. Dang that girl can eat! (lol)

We're starting to go back and forth now about her being pregnant though. She looks to be pregnant, and I felt her belly to see if I could feel any "lumps" (not pushing hard of course.), but I don't feel any movement. To be honest, I'm not sure if I should be, I just thought I should. (lol) So is this normal or could the kittens be dead b/c of her being so under fed before? Or maybe she's just not as far along as we originally thought? Sorry for all the questions, but I really don't know as much about cats as I should. I'm a dog person usually. (lol)

Well, without knowing how far along she is, it's hard to say...for now, if she was my cat, I would just get her spayed and abort the kittens if there are any. It's a sad state of affairs, but if you really think about it, it's the best thing for her.

One other thing you want to make sure is if she is Feline Leukemia/Feline Aids negative. Especially since you have another cat. If she's positive for either of these diseases, she should absolutely be spayed and have the kittens aborted. Depending on the situation, since you have another cat, if this cat is positive, the best thing to do might be to put her to sleep.

If she's negative, i'd just have her vaccinated and spayed. I'm sure there are some low to no cost spay/neuter/vaccine clinics in your area, the humane society should be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks so much for taking in this kitty, and doing the right thing for her! :)

Wow! See this is why I usually go with dogs. Rescuing cats is complicated. (lol) I called the league of animal welfare here and left them a message and am awaiting their call. My grandmother said they can usually give advice on a given situation and can point you in the right direction. We're going to get her tested cuz I had actually seen something on google that I found about them needing to be tested for that. I've been researching. (lol) As far as the humane society is concerned, I won't go anywhere near them. Idk how it is elsewhere, but all our does down here is put animals to sleep and they're gotten in trouble several time for neglecting animals they do house. They're just worthless. :/ But, yea. We're getting all of that done asap, and thanks for the advice and the compliment. I'm an animal person so this is nothing really. (lol) The cat we already had is actually a rescue as well! (lol) :)

Be careful! Don't let your neighbors know. I've known a few people who rescued one pet and it turned into two, three, and more. Usually you get dubbed as a species collector and just get cats or whatever. One person I knew ended up with 7 or 8 iguanas, people where literally dumping and leaving them on her door.

Good luck with the cat though! A vet could always ultrasound and found the stat of or lack there of with kittens. Its possible she recently had some, they died, and she didn't bounce back. My ex had a cat who food beinged after we got her and gained a ton of weight. We got her weight back down but her belly never recovered and sagged.

Trust me I don't advertise b/c people around here are HORRIBLE about dropping animals off. It's sad really.

And that was another idea that we had too. Maybe she just had some that didn't survive. Idk though. She looks pregnant. Like her belly is in the prime preggers form (lol), but I did notice that her nipples are really hard and she doesn't seem to be producing milk at all. Which raises me to another fear that if she is and she's one that has problems lactating, then I'm going to have to find some way to bottle feed kittens. I've done it before, but only with two and those were hard enough. I would go insane feeding anymore than that. (lol)

I'm thinking about taking her to the vet and getting them to check her out and let us know what's going on with her. She's acting fine though and she has already gained some weight back since she's been here, so idk. Like I said, usually I just stick with dogs. Actually I used to rescue and foster pit bulls, so this is the polar opposite of what I'm used to doing. (lol)

I'd love to help bottle feed! but I'm in Canada LOL

Yea. It sounds fun doesn't it? It's not. (lmao) I had one kitten that was about two weeks old that I took home to care for for a local pet store. I thought it was going to be so fun nursing that little kitten until I realized that she got up to eat about every 3-4 hours screaming. I seriously thought that kitten and I were going to have to duke it out before she was ready to put up for adoption. (lol)

I have school sooo... not gonna be good but still, I love to help animals, their cuteness is enough payment:)
At the Toronto Humane Society, you can volunteer to bottle feed kitties but the centre is too far :'(

See that's what I hate about our humane society. They won't take in and keep kittens or pregnant cats or dogs or even old animals. They youthenize (sp?) animals that are not perfect adoption specimens and sometimes even if they are if they're there too long. :/
