Applying saline to gecko's eye

Hey everyone. Been a while since I've been on the forums because of school but this place has helped me a ton!

Quick question, though.

My gecko has shed stuck in his eye. I've had the issue before and got some drops from the vet and cleared it up.

My question now, however, is the safest way to apply saline solution to his eye. Before I bring him to the vet I was gonna use saline solution in his eye to see if it'll work itself out. I have a bottle of sterile solution, but I was just curious how I should safely and best apply it for the little guy.

Any help is appreciated!

Do you have a little eye dropper? Or a nasal dropper lying around? Or a pipette? That would work, or just a q-tip if it's wet enough. If you got none of these, use your finger? You might spill a bit, but one tiny drop should make it :D

Good luck! Hope you are successful. :main_yes:

Thanks guys. Used a qtip first but then I found a little syringe-dropper and have been able to make it work. His eyes been shut from the skin and when I apply saline he's able to open it up and it looks muchhh better.

ALSO:

when I drip the saline, he can open his eye and I can see the shed that become stuck. An edge of this has begun to stick out a little but won't come completely out.

Is there a way to safely/gently pull the skin out, or should I let him just try to work it out?

I have a panther chameleon that gets the same problem every so often! I do just like you said except the vet gave me a syringe (needle and all) to get a better amount into his eye. Perhaps ask the vet for the same next time. I would continue doing the saline drops about twice a day since you really dont want to stress him out more being he already cant see. You could try to get the shed if he holds still but with the saline he should work it out.

I have a Leo that i think is getting an eye infection, because one eye is closed most of the time, and when it does open it is cloudy and very dark. I read that saline drops are good for this sort of thing. I dont know how much or how often though. Can you help me out? Thanks!
