Are sororities worth it?

When I first started College and stuff I thought about joining a sorority but the school I was in before didn't have a big Greek Life thing. When I transfered to a private school I saw how big these Greek Sororities can be. I just bumped into a friend that's in one and said I should look into it but I don't want to waste my time on non sense

Anyone been in a Frat or sorority.

I was in a sorority my first (and only) year of college. It was great fun, I made a LOT of friends - or "sisters" - and for the most part we all helped each other out any way we could. Not to mention not having to live in the dorms...that was nice lol. BUT at the same time...that many women housed together can cause some serious drama. It all depends on the sorority you join, and what they stand for...just do your research and you'll know the right fit when you find it.

I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't have to pay for your friends. So i'm totally against the whole Frats and such.

I hate that argument...it's the de facto argument for anyone who isn't charismatic enough (read: doesn't have the balls) to go up and speak to whoever they want. That, and people who are envious of what they're missing out on.

You don't have to be friends with people you don't like in the frat(/sorority), and you definitely don't have to pay for your friends. The payment is small, and your paying for lifelong network connections. People I don't even like, and in different frats, no less, are excellent contacts within business.

In my opinion, the greek social life is definitely not for everyone, but you do meet a lot of people, learn a lot about social interaction (professional and otherwise), and how to drink like a champ after finals (if you're into that). And if you take your time during rush (no pun intended), then you'll pick the house that best fits your personality.

I'd say go for it. Let us know if you do decide to rush, I can recommend some sororities right off the bat just based off of what i've seen and heard.

There is no reason to take this thread to the level of personal attacks and comments about the human male anatomy. Let's just stick to the original question in this thread, and keep it civil. Thanks...

I have turned down a number of frats, have had girlfriends in sororities, and have had roommates who pledged or were members while we lived together.

It depends on what you are joining for. They had nothing appealing to offer me that I could not obtain without them or paying dues, but everyone has a different perspective.
