I fell a little dumb asking this question but how do i put a picture up for an avatar?

Go into your user control page (user cp tab at the tippy top of the page) , and there is a column on the left with a TON of options, one of them is for your edit avatar. Just look, you'll see it. I believe it's in settings and options section.
