Baby Leo Fractured Leg

Hi all, brand new to this forum. I recently, meaning yesterday, got two baby leopard geckos from a local pet store. I watched them eat, they all seemed healthy in their enclosure and picked the two I liked best, which happened to also be the two eating the most as well.

I left for work, when I got home one of the babies seemed to have a fractured leg. There isn't much climbing in my cage yet as I thought they were too small to have those dangers. So the baby seems to have broken its leg, without probable cause. I am leading towards the probability that I bought a baby with MBD. I can return her and get my money back, though I am concerned that they will just use her as snake food if I do. They also will supply veterinary care for the gecko as I bought her with this debilitating condition.

She gets along really well actually and ate a couple mealworms this morning I had sprinkled with Calcium.

I've done a lot of reading this morning on similar situations and would like some more input:

What should I demand the store vet to do?

I am more than willing to coach her along back to health, but don't feel I should have to pay for it obviously. So I would like to come to the store with a plan of action so I can get her healthy again. I have seen a lot of leos recover from these same instances and have faith that she can too, I don't mind having a crippled leo.

I definitely would have a vet check her out. He can tell you if there is MBD or fracture, and then give you a treatment plan. Hard to tell on picture, but there is some redness. Might be an infection. ASAP to vet.

It looks more like an injury to me, maybe a bite from another gecko. It looks swollen too and might be infected. She needs to be seen by a vet.

I have had good results with a young gecko that fractured its leg (how, I never figured out) and it healed fine. I do agree that it looks like a bit and would also recommend a vet visit. As long as there isn't a larger, hidden problem, it's likely that it will ultimately be just fine. As a precaution, you should consider separating the 2 of them.

Your little one culd have come to yu with a broken leg or could have gotten a toenail stuck in that repti carpet, panicked and broke the leg trying to get away. Take their option to go to a vet, at least then you know exactly what you're dealing with. If after the vet it turns out to be more than you care to deal with return the leo for another, and seperate your leos into their own enclosures. They are not social creatures by nature and you can rest comfortably knowing they can't hurt eachother. Ditch the reptile carpet and use either paper towels or tiles for flooring. Good luck.

Yes how is the little one doing now? We'd love to know.

I agree that it does look like some form of injury other than a plain joint fracture. If there is a lesion, it may require antibiotics.
