Hello, I received a baby leopard gecko from a friend on my birthday, she thought it would be fun since I already have a male to get me a female. she bought the baby leo from ***** (the start of the problem) I knew right away somthing wasnt right with her, she was skinny and had unshed skin on her head but not toes. That night(Feb 28) she ate 4 pin head crickets (dusted and gut loaded of course) and she took to her water rock quickly so I figured maybe she just wasnt getting any TLC at *****. BUT the next day she was not good at all, Didnt want to wake up, no intrest in food or water and lathargic. My first thought was inpaction since ***** uses calci sand but she did eat the day before so I took her to the vet (Mar 2) just in case and now she is on Albon (sp?) for Coccidia. Vet told me a drop 2x a day and alot of water. he also told me feed fer peach baby food and lots of it. I read on other forums to give them chicken baby food because of the protein and it makes more sence, they eat insects, I would think peaches just isnt natural?! But as vet ordered I have been giving her peaches. She hates them! I guess my question is, she looks horrible and she even falls asleep while shes licking the meds and water and peaches, shes soooo skinny and the vet said that shes going to keep loosing weight even tho shes being treated but she really dosnt have much weight to loose. I dont want to force feed her, Iv never done this and it seems so stressful for them. What can I do for her to help her recover?! Iv had alot of reps in the past but moving forced me to leave them back home, now I have Yoshi, my Male leo and Wusabi is the new sick girl. They are on rep carpet, 2 hides, one cool one warm, under tank heater for night time and 60w bulb for daytime. Calcium dish, water dish, diet of mostly gut loaded dusted crickets and sometimes small mealwarms (both gecks are still under 4 inches long) Any suggestions please help!!!
P.S. Gecko soup sounds great but thats alot of soup for one tiny leo plus Im haveing enough trouble getting her to take what shes getting now..... help?!

I would suggest keeping her hydrated with water drops on the nose. I also think chicken baby food makes more sense. You could mix the peach and the chicken to be on the safe side. She may need a few drops on the nose at a time many times a day. She also may just be too small and sick to pull through. I've tried with a few geckos in bad shape and generally have not succeeded, though I would try again if it happened again. I assume you have your 2 geckos in separate enclosures (if not, separate them right away).

Thanks Aliza, I am putting the drops on her nose, it just dosnt seem lik she gets enough of it but i guess any tiny lick helps. I was hoping there was a better way or something better to give her. My gecks were together at first because I only have one tank but the vet gave me enough for both. If Yoshi stops eating Im going to start him on the Albon right away. I cant beleave all this happened just from one birthday present!

Firstly, good luck, sick geckos is extremely stressful... :( Dealing with this myself. Have you considered trying the gecko-soup/slurry recipe?

Also, I wouldn't medicate the second one without being 100% sure he is in fact infected. Just in case.

I second the assertion that the "gecko soup" would help. If he/she keeps "falling asleep" it is most decidedly a far progressed illness. It also sounds like your vet was a bit of a quack. I'm not certain on this but everything I've ever read or heard from good sources tells me that feeding your gecko peach baby food is a bad idea, Force feeding is stressful but it can have very positive results if you keep at it and don't over do it.

Has the baby pooped? If so, good. this next bit wont hurt it, and can really only help. If not, then I suggest doing this right away. Draw the gecko a bath, but only lukewarm water, and watch to make sure its head never goes under, you don't want a lung infection on top of the other problems. Also, if your gecko has not pooped, try giving a drop of olive oil or mineral oil a day. The warm soaks will also help keep him/her hydrated, which is a plus.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you everyone for the tips, Wusabi has passed away :-( She will be missed. I feel like i tried everything i could. Now i just worry that 2 days with my healthy Yoshi could have made him sick also... Hes eating and nothing wrong yet but Im keeping my finger crossed
