I took 2 of my geckos to the reptile vet this morning because they seemed a bit off and got good news and sort of bad news:
1. Oskar, my super snow male, has been making croaking noises lately and his nostrils seem to be plugged up, although he has been eating and moving around as usual. As I suspected, he has a mild respiratory infection. The vet removed a plug of either mucous or pus from one nostril and gave me some antibiotics for him. He should be fine.
2. Mocha, my AFT female has been looking very pear shaped lately, with a thin tail and a big belly that's got a huge black area. He tried to see if he could aspirate anything from her liver but got nothing. He said it could be anything from ovarian cyst to kidney disease to liver disease, but that there really wasn't a good treatment that wouldn't be very uncomfortable and probably useless. At this point, she isn't really acting sick, though I have to "assist feed" her. It doesn't seem as if she's dying at the moment, but there's really nothing I can do for her besides keep her comfortable. I've had her since last May; she was a rescue from NJ that I found online.
