hey guys, havnt been on the forum in about 2 years.also i have done a horrible thing, i have neglected my leopard gecko for 2 years, barley taking care of him, he lost alot of weight and is having shedding issues wasnt gettin much food or heat. i was very busy in school and work so he wasnt on my mind, he was kept in my basement. Now i am not working and im in school and realized how much i used to enjoy the little guy. he is very skinny but i have cleaned his cage and got him back in my room. got him tones of crickets and super worms, gunna whip him back into shape! i know what i did was wrong but does anyone have any advice on gettin his pounds back and getting him back to normal? thanks alot guys.:(

I totally agree with Katie. If he's just a bit under loved and nourished he should bounce back in no time with proper husbandry, food and supplementation. I wouldn't try to fatten him quickly with wax worms or anything I would just feed him consistently on healthier food. Good luck and keep us posted on his recovery!

Takes a lot of stones to come on a site like this and admit that kind of treatment to your gecko. Ill give you tons of respect for attempting to turn things around and do the right thing. And for asking for proper help to get it done right. Katie and Lisa have it right. Only thing Ill add is to also try a smaller meal like mealworms. If hes that bad off he might have a hard time chasing down crickets or swallowing large superworms. Clean water, proper temps, plenty of food and suppliments, and plenty of places to hide (including a moist hide for humidity), should be all you need to get him up and running again in proper time. Assuming theres no unseen medical issues. Good luck with him though. And if you find yourself slipping back into not having the time for him, find him a good home so he doesnt go through it again needlessly...:main_thumbsup:

The only thing I could think to add would be, not to handle him too much. If you haven't interacted with him very much in the past couple years, I would focus on getting him healthy before trying to get him used to your presence again.

Give your cricket or mealworm good dutload. That is can give enough proyein for your gecko. Your gecko back into to the top condition as soon as possible.
