Hey everyone. I wanna add one of those aquarium backgrounds like some of you have. I have an old one from my old fish tank, but it is all underwater reefs and such. Thats pretty much the same problem I found with Petsmart and Petco. Where did you guys find backgrounds that were more natural to a Leo's habitat?

If you want to put a little more time in and do it yourself --I googled landscape pictures of Pakistan and Afghanistan, printed them, mounted them on really nice paper and laminated them to use as backgrounds.

Alright, I really like Aliza's idea about making my own background. I have been trying to search for pictures that would look good. I have only found a few and would like some opinions. I'm looking for a natural leopard gecko habitat along with what would look nice as a background. Also if anyone else has other pictures I would appreciate it.

I just looked through my pictures from AZ/NM to see if anything might be close, but unfortunately, most of them have silly man-made crap in them except for these.

I have them all as 3264x2448 if you want them. (these are just resized, not cropped)

Paul, I like that third one, I would clop out the sky, so it's all rocky background. That would be awesome. Too bad I don't use any tanks for my leos anymore.

A lot of the pictures on the internet are still too small to look good when you click on "see image full size". My son did turn one into a panorama using photoshop, so you could probably enlarge the images if you're comfortable with photoshop or something equivalent.

What do you use? I am eager to learn of options other than tanks! :D

There are a few aquarium/reptile backgrounds for sale in pet shops on a roll that they cut to size for you
With lizards becoming increasingly more popular-they seem to have gotten the hint that the people still using tanks like a nice background to put on them
Ebay is a good idea-you can find just about anything on there and also do online searches of the large chain pet stores
If you can find an image (I love Paul's pics) that has the resolution lending it to be printed at a large enough size-that works great too
Another idea might be to look through magazines and see if you can find a nice pic (or make a collage from several) and glue them to a piece of poster board and that might make a nice background

hope this helps

:D

On eBay I could only find whole rolls of background that were selling for about $40. I only need like a foot and a half. The ones I have found in pet stores are all underwater aquarium ones.

We get ours at PetsMart - the backings are double-sided, and they're in the fish department...the front is fishy looking, and the back is rock. It's not cheap, though - I think we paid $30+ for 8 feet.

Wow, that's a lot. Even though I couldn't find a good one, I found them for $1.99/foot. Now even if I found one I wouldn't know how big to get. I am still in the process of deciding if I am getting a bigger tank.

Here's a thought. How about taking an image to one of those print shops, telling them the measurements you want, and they print your picture to size. Then you can pick up clear contact paper and laminate the picture yourself. This way you get what you want, and the printed image probably wouldn't cost all that much.

But you may need an extra set of hands or two to make sure you get things straight during the lamination.
