I found another fairly good size black spider in Indie's tank today.
I cought it just in time, because Indie was giving it the "eye".

Just to remind everyone.
With the cold weather comming, you may find more unwanted "guests" in your home (I know I always do).

Where I live, we also get these big centerpeads.

Spiders (and such) can make your leo very sick, or can even cause death.

Always be sure to keep that lid closed on you terrariums, tubs, etc. esp. if it's in a basement (like mine).

Just another helpful (hopefully) hint from Nats :D

Why do spiders make em sick?

I guess because of their venom.
Maybe it depends on the spider, but I have heard reports of leos getting
sick and even dying from eating spiders.

I dont know if it's a real concern or not, but I dont want to take the chance :main_no:

I know that a lot of centipedes have toxin covered skin, maybe it's the same with spiders?? anyways, I'd rather eat a crick or mealie anyday over a spider, lol. =]

Well, from my past experiences with praying mantids, they can eat poisonous insects without any ill effect. My mantid has eaten a hornet and a bee without becoming sick. Is it the same with geckos? My friend fed my other friend's gecko a spider and it died soon after for no reason except the spider. Did the spider cause the death?

praying mantis are insects, their nutritional capabilities and needs are WAAYY different than a reptile.

I think it was because of the spider. When something preys on something else in nature that is to some degree toxic often times it has a natural immunity to the venom/poison of it's prey, but if taken from it's natural ecosystem it may run into venom/poison that it would have never come in contact with otherwise, that it is not immune to. Many insects are toxic, it's their last line of defense from predation.

We have sticky bug tape all over the frog/gecko room... Usually for the fungus gnats generated by the PDF's cages - but we've caught 2 jumping spiders this week so far. :p

Either way - 90% of spiders (at least in ct) pose no threat... Only a few of them have potentially dangerous toxins.
