Is halogen bulb a bad idea as the basking bulb, they produce a good bit of heat, I just wonder about the Gecko seeing. What bulb is best for there basking?

I use a ceramic heat emitter in a bio-active setup and it keeps the entire tank at 80*. and had been using repti-sun bulb for basking, and to heat up the rocks on the hot side so after dark they can absorb the heat from the rocks. but noticed a halogen I grabbed from work temporarily had been producing the same heat. just wasn't sure about the type of light.

Many people will tell you that leos don't need lights because they're nocturnal. Others have seen their leos out basking when they provided the lights. In my opinion, the only things to beware of are:
--some albinos are bothered by the lights
--my vet feels that if the cage gets too dry and hot it can actually cause the leos to get dehydrated and in extreme situations could cause their eyes to dry out leading to blindness. Not everyone agrees with him, but he does have decades of practical experience

I would recommend maybe a lower wattage, less focal bulb than halogen. I use halogen puck lights for my day geckos that need a hot basking area. ZooMed makes a light fixture now that holds a variety of LED lights. It's on the pricy side but it does do nice light without adding heat.
