Is anyone farmillar with the side effects of Baytril (Enrofloxacin) on geckos?

I have been treating one of my geckos with it and since starting it she has become extremely lethargic and weak. I have been feeding her slurry twice a day and she doesnt have a problem licking it off her nose and she has been pooping (best poop I have seen from her in a long time). I have become concerned that she is having a bad reaction to the baytril so I have decided to stop giving it to her but I wanted second opinions. I have given it to her 7 out of the 10 days prescribed by the vet. Shouldnt she be getting better not worse? So any thoughts? Thanks.

Sometimes Baytril can give geckos a belly ache, and it can make them feel worse before they feel better. (It can kill some of the good bacteria in the GI tract as well). If the gecko is really sick or weak, it can be hard on the kidneys.

Marcia is right (as always! :) ) Baytril can cause GI upset in every species. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, and mental confusion are among the top complaints. I would call your vet before you just compleatly stop the medication. She obviously needs a pretty strong antibiotic for some reason, and there are lots more out there to choose from. Tell him she's not tolerating it very well, i'm sure he'll be happy to give you a different one. Without a culture & sensitivity, it's very difficult to choose an effective antibiotic immediatly.

I asked the vet for it because she had not improved at all after being treated for parasites and I noticed that bacterial infections have very similiar symptoms so I asked for baytril because it covers alot of bacterial infections and I figured if she had one that would clear it up. Im not really sure what is wrong with her but I have covered parasites with panacur and metrizole (sp) and she has been treated with baytril now also. So hopefully she will get better soon. She is still extremely lethargic but is still eating slurry. She went from 9grams to 14 grams. She is pooping once a day. It is a little loose though because of the moisture content of the slurry.
