Wow Michael, are you sure there is a potato in there, lol.

and yeah the moldy dried up 'tatos got thrown out... If they don't have mold they stay because the beetles use them as hides... LOL!

Thats one reason I don't like tatters, they hide in them and I sometimes accidentally throw them out lol. I don't have near that many beetles. lol Ever seen them "mating"? Its so weird lol The males go from one, to the next to the next without stopping, you would think they would run out after a beetle or 6. lol

I really need to start breeding mealworms again. Buying them is expensive.

What is that food you have in there?

The first time I bred mealworms and superworms I used chicken egg layer mash but I ended up getting pests every time I bought a bag (small beetles the size of this - and then the next time I got a bag full of mites which, ate my pupa.) Then I tried oat meal and bran cereal but they dont seem to be as successful with either of those.

Breed mantises and youll get to see that all the time... I used to catch mantises in the summer, breed them in the fall, then release the babies in the spring. That was like my first "breeding project." Then I moved up to super worms. Then I graduated to guppies and now geckos.

Matt, thanks for the offer, but im kinda short on cash right now. Ill prolly start breeding MWs again after I pay tuition. I was just curious, but thanks :main_thumbsup:

I use ground bran, oatmeal, carrots and my left over gecko calcium. At my last count 400+ beetles and unknown baby mealies.
Here's a peek:

The local petstore was gonna flush some when I was buying mealies so I asked and they gave me 20 for free. Then I ordered 1000 mealies fed my gecko's off them plus most morphed now I have loads. I pick the beetles out and move them every 2 months.

O my sweet lord in heaven man! That is the most beetles I have ever seen. I don't even have 100 beetles and I only have like 50 in alien mode. How many mealies do you get a month?

I have no idea how many are in the two containers. But I can honestly say once I move the subtrate it levels in mins as there are so many. I have seen my mealies bury a carrot in like a couple hrs. My rough guess as of now is there are prob over 2000+ baby mealies in one container. The pictures were taken today and there are hundreds of babies in there too.

In my main beetle area I counted mealies in a corner while digging some for my new baby carrot-tail. I counted 200 in a 3" square here's another few pictures:

pictures taken as of 7:37pm pacific time July 16 2007. colony gets bigger everyday, they also bury themselves faster than I can snap pictures!
