You want the floor temp to be in the low 90's. I think an ambient (air) temp of 85 is way too high. I don't worry about ambient temp as long as the temp is what I can live with in my own house. I'm in New England and don't have AC, so my ambient temps range from high 60's in the winter to mid 90's (not my choice, but it's hot out there) in the summer. I think ideal ambient temp is low 70's but others may not agree.

What size UTH do you have? Are you using a thermostat? What is your substrate medium? What is the temperature inside your house?

UTH = Zoo Med 10-20 gallon pad.

No thermostat. Didnt help raise temp just let me know I could get it to 75.

Substrate = Foam like shelf liner 1/4" thick seems to absorb heat well.

House Temp = 75 degrees

Note: UTH is re-used and is held to bottom of tank with duct tape. My original thought was to buy a new one that adheres directly to it and that would solve the problem.

It's likely that the UTH isn't attached as well as it could be, or isn't working right. If you can get access to a wattmeter you can see if it's putting out the wattage it should. I recommend getting zoomed heat cable and taping it to the bottom of the tank.

UTH's arent meant to be re-used sadly, as it damages stuff inside when you tear it off a tank. So you need a new UTH, not a light fixture. :)
