What is too hot I'm trying to decide between tile and carpet which will get hotter. My digital thermometer just gave a tile reading of 92.7 is that too hot?
It depends on the keeper. The number I've heard most consistently is 92. Most people don't go lower than that. Some people swear that their geckos do better at 95-97.
Anything can get too hot and if it gets over 100 it will burn him. Although I have found that a certain size UTH in a certain size tank with tile (1-5 gallon UTH in a 10 gallon tank, 10-20 gallon UTH in a 20 long) seems to heat to the correct temp without a thermostat, you will be better off using a thermostat or rheostat to regulate the temperatures.
I have a 55gal tile floor with a 10/20gal UTH. It's on a rheostat and the temp fluxes between 92 & 97 all day/night. Our Texas temps in the house range alot different than when I lived in Mobile, AL.
I'm new at this as well, but like Aliza says, it's up to the human.
