I was wondering which breeders everyone deals with and has dealt with in the past. Which breeders should new customers stay away from (due to health issues ect.) and which ones are recommended. I've only dealt with VMSherp.com, and they are great (IMO). Good prices, great delivery and healthy gecko. Just thought this thread might be informative to others.

Well I don't think I can tell you breeders I don't like, as it would violate the TOS. But here are the lists of breeders I have dealt and bought geckos from, with and really enjoyed. In no particular order.

Boutique geckos, Marlo Butsko
H.I.S.S., Kelli Hammock
Garden State Gecko, Paul Almendinger (definetly there after the sale, answer about a million e-mails of mine, I’m almost not kidding amount the # either)
VMS, Sean Niland
Paul Sage Reptiles, Paul Sage
& The Gecko Prince, Debbie Prince

There are many other great breeders out there, but those are the ones I worked with and really liked. I have dealt with a few I didn’t, but again can’t tell you who they where. Hope that helps.

that helps I'm sure. There are just a few people that I have seen talking about buying their frist leo or just getting started with leos, and I thought that we could give them a heads up of good breeders to minimize (not necessarily eliminate) problems that could be avoided. Of course the mods can delete this thread if they feel it's not needed or is against TOS.

Well...I found someone local whos about 15 minutes away...I'm gonna buy one from him soon....the good thing (I think) about a local breeder is you can stay in touch with him and try to make a deal xD...and you don't have to ship...and they are usually cheaper if they aren't the big brands :D

The closest breeder I have found near me is about 100 miles away from me. I just haven't put numbers together to see if it would be benificial for me to pick them up from them or go with a different breeder.

I picked my first leo up from the petstore. That was before I knew about this wonderful community online. Since I have purchased 4 more all from Celebrity Geckos. Let me tell you that Mike and Summer Johnson have been absolutely wonderful to deal with. They have answered all of my questions and have great customer service. All of their geckos were really healthy, and have done great since I have had them. I would without a doubt do business with them whenever I am in the market for a new loved one.

Try clicking on the links at the top of GeckoForums.net for the great breeders who help sponsor this website! Also, take a look at the breeder's trader ratings and read the feedback they have received from buyers.

I buy from alot of small breeders and alot of the bigger breeders. Another thing to consider (generally) is that the smaller a breeder's operation is, the better care can be given to each gecko that they care for. Also, some popular breeders produce so many geckos that they simply can't tell you the amount of info that you can get from someone who breeds small scale. Although, I've gotten sick/deficient animals from both, large and small scale breeders, so it really is a gamble either way. You could also say that the larger breeders have stronger bloodlines, because alot of them just euthanize an animal if its less than perfect--culling the bad traits/genes from their projects. I guess what I'm saying is that there is always a risk, no matter which way you go.

On the health issues--there are sooo many new genetic combos, we don't yet understand what side effects are naturally synonymous with certain genetic combinations (i.e. dog breed health issues)--some of these "breed issues" are never going to be separated from the appearance the genes creates--some of these new morphs might even be less than compatible with life, and some might have serious problems. I'm hoping that breeders aren't trying to 'cleanse' the genetic of these types of animals--it would only lead to more issues in the long run. IMHO

Personally, I like to go to the facility, meet the "parents", and choose from many many geckos, but if I see something I just can't live without, I don't care who produced it :) Go with your gut!

I haven't purchased from U.S but I always go on Progeckos .com for information, to browse availbe page ect. Seems like a smaller breeder that has quality well cared for animals. I'd buy from Cody in a heart beat.

Every breeder I have bought from is on this site. I would recemend any of them. To me it is what you want and how much you want to pay for it. I happen to be fortunate and live within 200 miles of alot of breeders near me and most are within 100 miles of me. I don't have a site but I post in the classifieds so check there often as well. In the end it is who's leopards you personally like the most. Geez there are way too many leopard geckos from breeders on this site I love.
I have bought from Gecko Ranch , Golden Gate Gecko, The Gecko Prince, Tangerine Gecko, Kangas Kritters, David and Tamara and I have deals with Nigel and Chris currently. When I get my Reptile Room I will be buying from alot more breeders ;)

Albey, Geckos Ect., A & M Geckos, Leopard gecko.com are just a few of the Bigger names I have bought from and have been 100% satisfied every time. I have also purchaed from several small breeders JB leoards, Kangas Kritters and been staisfied every time as of late. Just do some reasearch before you buy and you should be good to go.

It's hard to go wrong with a breeder here. I've bought geckos from quite a few of them and have been happy with everyone.:)
