I'm in the market for a new camera, and I was wondering whether I should get a digital or lense camera. Can you guys please post what your favorite digital and lense camera is, preferably Canon or Nikon, from experience? I put this in the General Leos, because most of the pictures I'll be taking is with my reptiles. Thank you!

Canon digital SLR rebel xti. I 'm shooting with the stock lens which is a EFS 18-55mm. Love It!

I know you are probably wanting a different camera opinion, but I also use a Canon Rebel XTi, with a different lense. I find it works awesome when you have the lighting set up right and you use the right settings in Manual mode, but even in Auto it works awesomely!

It's definitely one you may want to look into, but it's not the cheapest of digital cameras (I don't know your price range). Also, since it's now a version not made by Canon anymore (it's been succeeded by the XSi), you may be able to get it cheaper...I got mine on ebay in great condition for much cheaper! It was literally like brand new...so search around :).

I believe all Canon's "larger" model cameras have external lenses. So really you could just buy the body and buy any lens you want to go with it...you don't have to buy the stock lens. I'm no expert on good lenses though, so that would be a question to ask someone else.

I do think though that the Rebel is a good cheaper model, but I've heard the 40D's are really nice!

Oh, and the lenses are where you are going to spend most of your money (depending on what kind you get)...the body is the cheap part ;)!

Here's a link to Canon's Digital SLR cameras and lenses. I use the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM on my 40D for almost everything. The Rebel is the smallest/lightest body model of the Canon DSLRs, it's usually sold as a kit but you can find bodies then choose the lens you prefer.

Awesome, so I can always "upgrade" my camera whenever I want, without buying another one, to a certain extent. Thank you!!

We picked up a Nikon D40 its a 6.1 mp around June its a DSLR also. Got it with the stock lens 18-55 and also got the 55-200 VR lense also. We had a Kodak P-850 which you can add other lenses that you screw on the lense. What a big difference in the Nikon than the Kodak.

Here is a good link to look at all the cameras also you can compare cameras.

I use a Canon 30D, my primary lenses are a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 and a Canon 50mm f/1.4 prime. one thing i can definitely say is that DSLR's will almost always produce better images. however, a DSLR does not a good photographer make. Spend alot of time playing with it and experimenting with the various shooting modes. i know several people who went out and bought a DSLR and absolutely refuse to explore their camera. instead they leave it in automatic mode and then wonder why they can't produce more stunning photographs. either way you go though, Nikon or Canon, always remember as well that you do get what you pay for. While I do shoot with a Tamron lens, I will say this, if i could go back 3 years ago and stop myself from buying it, i would do so in a heartbeat. I wish i had gotten the "L" lens instead of the cheaper Tamron model. the reason being that over time, my tamron has lost some of it's focusing sharpness. i've sent it back to be adjusted but to no avail. now i'm waiting to get some funds scraped up to get the "L" lens.so what i'm saying here is, don't always go for the cheapest price. sometimes it does come back to haunt you :(
