I use Bed-A-Beast

i recently switched to this and have found it to be the best thing so far. plus it is really cheap to replace. 1/4 brick does my 4 large hides and i change it once a month. that equals less than $2 a month.

Am I crazy? I use a mix of BedaBest/Sphagnum Moss but I change it out every 7-14 days. I was concerned about it being moist all the time, in a warm atmosphere that it would be a breeding ground for bacteria and other nasty stuff. I can safely let it go longer???

eta - I like the mix of the two. The BaB was too "dirty" but the moss didn't stay moist long. The combo seems to work perfectly.

I realy like the spagnum moss as it retains moisture for almost two weeks and I have seen it passed in the poop so I know it won't impact the animals.

I'm also very curious regarding how long to go before changing it out? I'm changing mine out every two months.

Too soon, too late?

We've tried them all.. We now only use Bed-A- Beast / Coco Fiber. We change it out for the whole colony every 5-6 weeks. We re-wet it as needed (usually about every 2-3 days)

We've found it to be the most practical, economical, and acts as a good place for them to dig, lay eggs, shed, and sleep when they feel like it..

Papertowels are great too but need to be changed more often because they begin to stink and can form bacteria, but they are best for babes because there is nothing to ingest and get bound up.
