I used something like the hovabator last season. It did ok but the temps moved around sometimes(mainly when it would get really hot in the summer) and it was a pain to have to check on the temps 10+ times a day, mainly if I had to work that day.. Im just trying to find something fairly cheap that isnt HUGE(as I do only have 2 laying females at the moment) and im not good at making home made stuff lol! Ive heard good and bad things about the Pro MR-148.. I was seriously thinking about getting one of those until I read some of the bad stuff about them.. I was just curious to see is anyone knew of any other good incubators that would help with the temp fluctuation?

Hobovators need to be in a stable temperature room that does not get warmer than your desired setting in order not to overheat your eggs. We had to move ours out of my lizard room because I keep it warmer than the rest of the house in the summer.

Yea thats the thing a out the hovabator which is why i was seeing if anyone else had any other suggestions. the garage/studio stays pretty warm but can get a bit too warm sometimes. and in the summer we keep a air conditioner on in the bedroom.. unless maybe we keep the air conditioner down this year? just keeping it cool in here instead of like a blizzard lol

We did end up putting the hobovator in the bedroom. The other two are mini fridge DIY conversions that stay in the snake room that is kept warm, but the insulation keeps those temps steady within 1 degree and they're both on thermostats set at 81 and 88. We have coloubrids and pythons which incubate at different temps, both great for gex. I'm not sure I'll even use the hobovator this year, unless the others get so packed with snake eggs there's a space issue. You might be able to find someone to make you a DIY incubator if you supply the materials.

Fl_orchid-in your diy mini fridge what is your heat source.Did u put a fan in it? is your fan on the top or bottom?Does your fridge keep the temps stable. If u have your temp set for 81 on your thermostat whats preventing the temps from going up once the thermostat shuts off once it hits 81?

There are some small incubators out there that have both a heat and cool cycle on them. I believe mulitple reptile supply sites sell them as well as at some shows. Think they run somewhere between $100 and $150.

Roger, they both have 11" flexwatt, no fans. There's a few water bottles in different locations inside to help keep it "full". Just like with the regular house fridge, when it's filled, temps are more evenly distributed. Right now we're waiting for eggs so both are empty, but once the begin arriving, temps are closely watched and if there's a rise in the summer we can back off the thermostat setting accordingly. I don't think mini-fridges are so affected by room temps unless it becomes extremely hot because they're well insulated to keep drinks, etc, cool.

You might look into buying the ThinkGeek mini fridge (warmer and cooler).

I use it, and it works fine. It already has a little fan inside. You don't need a thermostat or anything; just use as is. You can fit about 80-90 eggs in there with the GEO method ;-) It's fairly small, and if you have few leos, it might be perfect. It doesn't depend on your room temps like the Hova-bator. You can also set it to "mute" or to "standard," and I wonder if that has any influence on temp stability. I'm using standard now, and it is NOT loud or anything. I have it right next to the TV, and it's not bothering at all. It also has a light inside that you can switch on, and you can see your eggs through the plastic door window. I got mine for under 90 dollars.
