i'm going to be getting a new Leopard Gecko and i was wondering what the best cage setup was. i do have a limit on the size of the cage though (its 30 inches long and 13 inches tall and wide) in only going to get one gecko so i think this is big enough, my old gecko lived in it just fine for 9 years.

what i need to know:
best substrate
hides
if they need stuff to climb on
warm/cold temp
basking light?
where i should buy them

im pretty sure im going to get a baby gecko, and if there is any other threads about this could you please post a link to it. thanks

Congrats on your soon-to-be new addition! I would go with tile for your substrate. 3 hides are needed--warm, cold, and humid. Temps are 90-95 on the warm side and I just let the cold side be my room temp. No basking light. I like a red light for viewing at night and for added warmth in the winter. UTH is the best method for heating. A log or two is nice for climbing around and appearance. I like driftwood. I order a lot online but local pet stores carry many items. Tile can be found at Home Depot pretty cheap.

My caresheet [HERE] should answer most of your questions. Please let me know if there are any additional ones that you have. Any pet store should have the items I recommend, except for the shelf liner and paper substrates which can be purchased at most convenience stores.

A moist hide can be created from a simple rubbermaid food storage container with a 3inch diameter hole or bigger depending on gecko make sure to run a lighter around the hole to prevent any jagged edges from the cut hurting your gecko. An then i use a clump of paper towels wetted and squeezed out then place that in the hide and it will make it humid. When breeding moist vermiculite or coconut fiber can be used I just use towels because they are easier to clean.
