We have never had a snake. We have lots of geckos though. I was wondering what a good first snake would be.

I think that eether a cornsnake or a ball python would be a good beginner snake. Ball pythons require a little more humidity than a cornsnake but its still the same idea.:main_thumbsup:
(of course correct me if im rong.)

There are a few more too. Along with what was already mentioned, you could add garters, kings and milks. Just about any colubrid would make a good starter. Good Luck with your choice! :main_yes:

I have never owned a garter snake but i read that they have high metabolisms so need to be fed like everyother day. if so that would be a little more work keepin up with that. If not then that would be a great snake.:main_thumbsup:

i had an adult garter and they are pretty easy to care for i fed mine once a week and fed it little fedder fish so i just bought a hundred or two so i didn't have to make constant trips to the petstore and put them all in a big tank,, and just fed him till he was full. o yeh i dont know if it was the species or just the fact that it was an adult but mine did not like handeling at all,, very wild and bit me. If you get one i'd recommend a checkered garter my friend had one and they're really nice and docile (at least his was) and wayyy better than mine
